March 6, 2011. Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, the personal secretary of Pope John Paul II, recently gave a Krakow cultural center the cassock he wore when Ali Agca tried to assissinate him on May 13, 1981.

“The cardinal has preserved the cassock worn by Pope John Paul II that tragic day of the attack, May 13, 1981; that blood-stained robe will remain in the center dedicated to John Paul II that is being built in Krakow".

The cassock will be on public display after the May 1st beatification. The cassock, now a relic, was kept secret by Cardinal Dziwisz. The cultural center dedicated to John Paul II in Krakow is located near the Shrine of Divine Mercy, which is closley linked to the spirituality of Karol Wojtyla.
