October 22, 2012. (Romereports.com) Cardinal
Antonio Maria Rouco Varela met with journalists at the Vatican's press office, to talk about the Synod on the New Evangelization. More specifically, he
talked about the role of movements within the Catholic Church.
CARD. ANTONIO MARĶA ROUCO VARELA
Archbishop of Madrid (Spain) “Maybe the methods of preaching, faith formation, catechesis, Christian initiation, are not enough. There are many initiatives and movements that want to help us reach these goals. For example the Neocatechumenal Way or Catholic Charismatic movements that try and promote the religion in every day life, in culture and education.”The cardinal also
emphasized that parents have to take an active role in educating their children in the faith. It's something that needs to be done, early on.
CARD. ANTONIO MARĶA ROUCO VARELA
Archbishop of Madrid (Spain) “This means that in the New Evangelization we have to give extra attention to families. This includes giving them a solid Christian formation and the necessary tools for them to strengthen their faith. That attention needs to be given to both couples and their children.”
This is the sixth synod for Cardinal Rouco Varela. The first was held in 1990, when a special synod was held on the situation of Europe.
