Cardinal Fortunato Baldelli passes away. Number of cardinal electors down to 116

September 21, 2012. (Romereports.com) Cardinal Fortunato Baldelli, has died in Rome at  the age of 77. The longtime diplomat served as a nuncio in France, Peru and the Dominican Republic. In 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him major penitentiary and made him a cardinal in 2010.


With his death, the number of cardinals eligible to participate in an eventual conclave is reduced to 116.
