February 22, 2013. (Romereports.com) Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi was born 70 years ago in Merate, in northern Italy. At 23, he was ordained a priest in Milan. After studying philosophy and theology, he specialized in the Holy Scriptures. It helped him become the prefect for the Ambrosian Library, one of the largest in Italy.

In 2007, Benedict XVI tasked him with leading the meditations for the Way of the Cross on Good Friday. That same year, the Pope named him president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, and subsequently bishop and cardinal. He launched the Court of Gentiles, a forum to initiate dialogue between believers and non-believers, in several cities across the world.

“The Court of Gentiles is truly one of the liveliest realities that our Dicastery pushes forward, with the support of Benedict XVI.”

Ravasi introduced to the press the latest book by Benedict XVI about the infancy of Jesus, and the Pope also tasked him with leading the spiritual exercises for him and the Roman Curia. His talks were based on the Book of Psalms.
