February 26, 2012. (Romereports.com) Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has sponsored the launch of “BUC” the Universal Christian Library. It's a collection of writings meant to renew the meaning of spirituality in today's society. It was created by the San Pablo publishing house and the Italian magazine 'Famiglia Cristiana'.
Card. Gianfranco Ravasi
President, Pontifical Council for Culture
“The initials 'BUC' sound like the word 'book' in English. First, we're
treating this as a book and it's pages. Second, it's a reading of
religious papers with a spirituality, a light for the man walking in
contemporary life. Third, it means a return to the deep roots of society
where culture is very neglected and superficial.”
His book “What is man?” will be the first edition. According to the
cardinal, the project gives a broad view of what spirituality means.
Besides theology, it also touches on topics of art, poetry and
philosophy. The collection is divided into three series: word, narrative
and testimony.

“In the house of a Christian, there should always be a Bible, it's something that should be in every home. Preferably the whole Bible. But it's also necessary, and from this come the positive aspects of the project, writings about the Christian experience.”The collection will be distributed in Italy. They're counting on a large interest in spirituality by the public. A study by the Italian Publishers Association says that books on spirituality have jumped by six percent, with 900,000 new readers in the last decade.
