February 18, 2013. (Romereports.com) (-ONLY VIDEO-) Benedict XVI and other members of the Roma Curia began their Lenten spiritual exercises on Sunday, his last as Pope before stepping down later this month.
During the first day of the retreat,
Italian Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi delivered his first of many talks, where he cited Moses during this period of transition for the Church.
Ravasi quoted the Old Testament, saying Benedict's future role as former Pope, and his prayers for the Church, will be similar to Moses' prayers atop a mountain, in helping the people of Israel in their struggle against Amalek.
The spiritual exercises will continue daily, at the
Redemptoris Mater Chapel, until Saturday morning.
