French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran is 69 years old. He was born in
Bordeaux and was ordained at the age 26. Twenty years later, he began
working at the Vatican as a minister of foreign affairs.
career has quite a trajectory. As Vatican diplomat, he held an important
role as a mediator during the Iraq war. In 2003, he was appointed to
oversee the Vatican Secret Archives and the Vatican Library.

As Cardinal Deacon, he has an important role after the conclave comes to a close. If he is not elected Pope, he has to go out to the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica to tell the world that a Pope has been elected. He will announce those two awaited and historic words of: “Habemus Papam.”
