YoutubeFebruary 9, 2013. (Romereports.com) Explaining the Second Vatican Council to children can be challenging. But now a Spanish comic book titled 'Once Upon a Council' is making it easier. It visually explains how and why Pope John XXIII led the Council back in 1959.

The adventure starts with the present, when the main character explains what the Year of Faith is all about, and why Benedict XVI decided to launch it in the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council.

The comic book goes back in history. Explaining the end of WWII, and the election of Cardinal Angelo Roncalli as Pope. He was in his late 70's at the time and few people imagined he would launch the Council and mark the history of the Church.

The comic book was launched by the Spanish diocese of Malaga. It includes the two years it took to prepare the council, before it opened on October 11, 1962. It then goes through the death of John XXIII,  the election of Paul VI and finally the closing of the Council in 1965. Then on the last page of the comic book, all the documents of the Council are ordered chronologically.

The goal is to educate the next generation about the Council so they have a full understanding of the Catholic faith, from the very start.
