Disagreements continue between Lefebvrists and Rome

YoutubeMay 17, 2012. (Romereports.com) It seems like a possible reconciliation between the Society of St. Pius X and Rome may have hit a road block. Cardinals and bishops from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith are not satisfied with the response Monsignor Bernard Fellay issued to the Vatican. In fact, the cardinals made some 'observations' for future discussions.

Unlike the Superior General, Bernard Fellay, the other three Lefebvrists bishops are opposed to a possible agreement with Rome. Therefore, the Vatican did not include them in the possible canonical solution. Meaning, they should personally contact the Holy See if they want to regularize their situation.

This latest shift in opinion, follows the publication of a letter from these three bishops to their superior Bernard Fellay. In it, they note that the Pope's thinking is subjective. They also add that by joining the Vatican, they would be at the hands of “modernists and liberals.”

The Vatican's spokesman, father Federico Lombardi confirms that a reconciliation between Rome and the Fraternity of St. Pius X is not a given. So, even though it all seemed quite close, at the moment the negotiations are still in the works.
