August 27, 2012. (Romereports.com) Cardinal Timothy Dolan will travel to Tampa Bay, Florida to deliver a blessing at the Republican National Convention. He did make it clear though, that his attendance isn't about partisan politics. He said, if invited he would also give a blessing at the Democratic Convention.
The Republican convention kicks off on Monday August 27, but Dolan is scheduled to preside over the closing prayer on the 30th, just after Mitt Romney, a practicing Mormon, is officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate.
As the Archbishop of New York and the president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops, Dolan is considered the highest ranking Catholic in the U.S.
He reportedly told president Obama's campaign about Romney's invitation. But he also said he would be willing and quote 'grateful' to offer a blessing at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Obama's campaign though, has not replied.
Most recently Dolan became well known in the political arena, for leading a legal fight against Obama's controversial birth control mandate.
