October 25, 2010.
At mid-day every Sunday it is customary for the Pope to appear at the window of his study to give the Angelus prayer. He was greeted by a large crowd of pilgrims and onlookers in St. Peter's Square. After the prayer he announced the next synod to take place in 2012 with the theme: “new evangelization.” Benedict XVI“The next Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in 2012, will be dedicated to the theme 'The new evangelization for the transmission of the Christian faith.'"
The synod will most likely occur in October of 2012.
Also during the Angelus, the Pope addressed the role of missionary work as a force for good. This Sunday was World Mission Day for the Catholic Church with the appeal to 'Build Community Together in Christ'. Benedict XVI“The missionary task is not to revolutionize the world, but transfigure it, drawing strength from Jesus Christ.”
The Pope ended by asking all Catholics to pray for missionaries across the world because most work in very difficult environments.
