November 5, 2010. In Rome a fire erupted at the Hospital Pediatrico Bambino Gesu in the resuscitation department, which was immediately evacuated. Smoke and flames spread to nearby rooms but without any major injuries.
There were reports of parents carrying their sick children out of the hospital when word of the fire spread. Doctors and nurses were the last to leave the area, resulting in many of them suffering from varying degrees of smoke inhalation.
According to the hospital, there were 50 cases of smoke inhalation.
