YoutubeAugust 5, 2011. (Romereports.com) Hunger and a severe drought are still hovering over the Horn of  Africa. More than 12 million people face starvation and the situation isn't showing much improvement.  Recently the United Nations added another three regions in Somalia to the list of affected areas.

It's the worst drought in 60 years. Its effects continue to spread to parts of Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.

To address the crisis, the U.N launched a campaign to raise $1 billion.  In the last few days, the donations, both large and small have been trickling in. Some from governments, others from relatively small non profits.

One of them is the Spanish organization called “Manos Unidas” It's a Catholic charity that has donated roughly $450,000  to help the famine stricken areas. Their logo reads “their tomorrow is today.” In addition to its donations, it's also looking for different avenues to help these families care for themselves in the future. One of the proposals includes providing housing and fertile land which can be used by families to grow their own crops. The idea is not only to provide a source of food, but also to provide an opportunity.

Hundreds of thousands of people continue to flee to neighboring areas in search for water and food.
The U.N says this crisis is expected until the end of the year.
