January 2, 2013 (Romereports.com) The general director of the Legionaries of Christ, who requested a sabbatical in October for health reasons, was hospitalized December 30 in Hartford, Connecticut with strong headaches.
According to a press release, “the doctors found an abnormal growth in his brain. They are now conducting tests to determine its cause. It is possible that Father Alvaro will have to undergo an operation in the near future.”
In October, Corcuera asked Cardinal Velasio de Paolis for time off to regain his health before the next General Chapter. For the time being, the vicar general of the Legionaries of Christ, Father Sylvester Heereman, has been carrying out the leadership duties.
