May 31, 2010. An internal investigation into Jesuit-run schools in Germany has cited 205 allegations of sexual abuse committed by priests.
The allegations were made by predominately male victims and focus on 12 priests, six of whom are now deceased, from several schools and youth facilities in Germany since the 1950s.
The report was commissioned in January after 25 students from a Jesuit-run school in Berlin came forward alleging sexual abuse.
Germany’s leading Jesuit official, Father Stefan Dartmann said he acknowledges “with shame and guilt our failure.”
He also spoke of a “widespread mentality in the order that the primary concern was the reputation of the institution.”
