May 19, 2011. (Romereports.com) "Educating the youth for justice and peace.” This is the theme Benedict XVI chose for World Day of Peace. It will be held on January 1, 2012. The Pope has urged young people to promote just societies with human rights and freedom for all.  He also calls on public institutions to offer the tools that will enable the next generation to accomplish this.

Benedict XVI is also highlighting the importance of education for peace. It's a theme that was also chosen for World Youth Day, on three occasions,  by John Paul II.
