Giovanni Angelo Becciu is the new Substitute of the Secretariat of State

YoutubeMay 10, 2011. (Romereports.com). After working as an ambassador in Havana, Cuba for two years,  Giovanni Angelo Becciu is back in the Vatican. He's now one of the pope's top aides and the number three person in the Vatican hierarchy.


As a Substitute of the Secretariat of State, the Archbishop will be in charge of managing everyday business matters. He will also be the liaison between the pope and different Vatican departments.

Archbishop Becciu is an Italian from Sardinia. He's 62 years old and he has been a priest for almost 40.

He served as a nuncio in Cuba and Angola. He  also worked in Sudan, New Zealand, Great Britain, France and the United States.

Besides speaking Italian, he also knows French, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
