May 28, 2010. In the hallways of the Pontifical Urbaniana University walk hundreds of students from all over the world. This university has universal character, not just because its students come from five continents but because of the classes it teaches. It is one of the few that has a faculty of Missiology. In other words, it shows its students how to become missionaries.
Fr. Benedict Kanakappaly
Missiology Faculty Dean, Pontifical Urbaniana University (Rome)
“The evangelization has to come to terms with the reality that is happening in the world today in Europe, in Africa, Asia, and in other parts of the world. And the faculty of Missiology is doing this kind of research, this kind of reflection. It certainly helps to do this kind of research.”
Andre Mary Djon Limay
Student at Faculty of Missiology (Camerún)
“Proclaiming the Gospel today is not like proclaiming it 50 or 100 years ago. It is necessary to study how to proclaim the Gospel today. For that reason it is important to study Missiology.”
During three years of study for the diploma in Missiology and after the doctorate, the program teaches students to adapt to different cultures and share the Gospel according to the customs and traditions of each country.
For that reason it is necessary to master different religions and to have a thorough knowledge of Theology and Philosophy.
Fr. Benedict Kanakappaly
Missiology Faculty Dean, Pontifical Urbaniana University (Rome)
“Our academy offer is varied. The faculty itself has three sections. The first section is for theology and theology of the mission. The second is for the pastoral and Catechesis. And the third one is mission and religion.”
Andre Mary Djon Limay
Student at Faculty of Missiology (Camerún)
“When I return to my country, I will serve the diocese, which sent me to study here. I will try to use theological principles that I have learned in order to take the Christian message, the Gospel, to the culture of my country.”
Now 400 students will return to their countries ready to put into practice everything they have learned during these years to become missionaries.
