YoutubeAugust 31, 2012. (Romereports.com) The health of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini is said to be growing worse. He is the former archbishop of Milan, filling that position from 1979 to 2002. In recent days his condition has grown worse as he is being taken care of in a medical center.

The current archbishop of Milan, Angelo Scola, has asked Catholics to pray for Martini to show their affection and closeness to him.

Martini was born in Turin in 1927. Along with his pastoral work in Milan he was deeply involved in academic studies of the Bible. He also served for many years as rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

For many years, Cardinal Martini has suffered from Parkinson's disease. In June during the World Meeting of Families in Milan, Benedict XVI made it a point to meet personally with the archbishop.
