December 30, 2011. (Romereports.com) The Vatican released a document which lists the number of people who were
killed this year, while working as missionaries.
A total of
26 people were killed in 2011, including 18 priests, four religious sisters and four lay people.
Fifteen of those victims were killed in
Latin American countries, including Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay and Nicaragua.
Six others were killed in
Africa. Four in
Asia and one in
Europe.
Not all missionaries though, were victims of religious violence. Some were killed during attempted robberies or
kidnappings. Others died while helping others with every day problems, disregarding their own safety in the process.
In
2010, the number of victims was 25.
