The Vatican released a document which lists the number of people who were killed
this year, while working as missionaries.
A total of 26 people
were killed in 2011, including 18 priests, four religious sisters and four lay people.
Fifteen of those victims were killed in Latin American countries
, including Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay and Nicaragua.
Six others were killed in Africa
. Four in Asia
and one in Europe
Not all missionaries though, were victims of religious violence. Some were killed during attempted robberies or kidnappings
. Others died while helping others with every day problems, disregarding their own safety in the process.
