He bears a striking resemblance to the religious icon and media superstar once known as Lolek in his native Poland.

And Polish actor Piotr Adamczyk will never forget playing John Paul the Second.

Benedict the XVI recently saw the made-for t.v. movie “Karol, A Man Who Became Pope” along with some 4,000 special guests in a Vatican auditorium.

The two-and-a-half hour film depicts the life of Karol Wojtyla from the beginning of World War II and the Nazi invasion of Poland to his election as pope in 1978.

The mini-series, which was made by Italian production company Tao Due, was shot on location in Poland and  took 3 years to complete.

The sequel to Karol is already in the works. It will follow the Pole through his pontificate and is expected to come out this fall.

“And I will be with you everyday until the end of my days.”
