In St. John Lateran Basilica in Rome, on the same day the first phase of John Paul II’s beatification process came to a close, an artistic testimony to the late pope was inaugurated.

The Totus Tuus exhibit contains sixty drawings depicting the forced silence of Karol Wojtyla.

Italian artist Nani Tedeschi captured the Pope’s pain during his last days.

The charcoal sketches show the agony of John Paul II….a weakness he turned into a strength.

It was that warmth and affection he showed us throughout the years, especially when he was sick.  That apparent weakness showed us how great God is.  Through human weakness, He is close to us with His love and mercy.

The Italian painter was inspired by John Paul II’s last audience on March 30, 2005.  Just three days before his death, he made an appearance before the world….his silent cry spoke volumes.
