December 17, 2012. (Romereports.com) (-VIDEO ONLY-) The Pope called for Israel and Palestine to renew
peace talks, after meeting with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. Both leaders reinforced their support of the United Nations resolution
recognizing Palestine as an observer non-member state.
In a press release, the Vatican spokesperson said the Holy See hopes that this resolution will “encourage the commitment of the international community to finding a
fair and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which may be reached only by resuming
negotiations between the Parties, in good faith and according due respect to the rights of both.”
In addition, they spoke about the contributions of the Christian community in the Palestinian Territories and the Middle East.
Abbas also met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
