September 4, 2012. (Romereports.com) At 90 years old, Mariapia Fanfani has done many things in life. One of the most striking is creating a humanitarian association named “Together for Peace,” which helps countries in conflict.
She met late Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini in Israel, when her organization was recognized for its humanitarian and intellectual contributions.
MARIAPIA FANFANI Together for Peace Association “For me the most memorable moment was when I saw him in Israel. He visited homes to talk to families. He was a very human, quiet and good. He had the great gift of kindness and word, which allowed him to convey something not everyone can.”
She also remembers how Cardinal Martini would meet with children who were separated by the conflict between Israel and Palestine. His message to them, was one of hope.
MARIAPIA FANFANI Together for Peace Association “I invited him to speak at a conference, where he said that one can't win wars or conflicts by doing evil acts. You win with kindness, and selfless giving. Give and you shall receive, but don't think on what will be given to you.”
The last time Fanfani met with Cardinal Martini, was a year ago. She says even though he already suffered from Parkinson's disease, he didn't really like to talk about it, since he didn't want to worry those around him.
