The Scottish based Catholic aid organization Mary's Meals started in the early 1990's as two brothers set out in a landrover to deliver badly needed food to refugees in Yugoslavia.
Since then, their organization has spread throughout the world with the aim of providing school children with at least one good meal everyday. Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow
Founder & CEO, Mary's Meals“Every school we've gone into now around the world to provide Mary's Meals, you see the same dramatic results, far more children coming to school, so enrollment shoots up. And then you see health benefits, you see academic performance improves.”
The food reaches children across the world including former child soldiers in Liberia, children from the caste system in India, as well as street children from Ukraine and the Phillipines. Blessings Chikulengeni
Headteacher, Chigwaja Primary School (Malawi)“Enrollment keeps on rising each and every time because all the children in the village flock to school because they are eager to learn in each and every aspect. I wish that Mary's Meals goes on to feed the children in every school.”
Volunteer, Chigwaja Primary School (Malawi)“I became a volunteer because Mary's Meals is so important. My own children and other children at this school receive this porridge. I play my part in in cooking, so that our children can attend school and be healthy.”
Mary's Meals is currently responding to the famine in the horn of Africa by sending 100 tons of food to Somalia which will feed some 900,000 people.
The organization is totally reliant on donations and can feed a child for an entire year on fifteen dollars.
