(Romereports.com) The Pope led Wednesday's general audience with roughly 20,000 people in St. Peter's Square. He reflected on how the liturgy can strengthen one's relationship with God.
BENEDICT XVI
“The Church is most truly
itself in the liturgy, as it is the place where God comes to us and
enters our lives. Let us remember that the liturgy is celebrated for
God, not for us; it is His work; He is its subject.”
During
the general audience, the Pope asked for everyone's prayers as he gets
ready to visit the Italian town of Loreto. On Thursday, October 4th, the Pope will visit the town, to pray for the upcoming Year of Faith and the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization.
BENEDICT XVI
“I
ask you to join me in prayer to entrust to the Mother of God, these
major Church events we will experience: the Year of Faith and the Synod
of Bishops on the new evangelization.”
Among the
thousands of people attending the general audience, there was one who
saw it from the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. A lone protester, who
walked into the Vatican as a tourist on Tuesday afternoon, spent the
night on the dome to speak out against Italian tax reforms.
