Card. Wuerl: Secularization is like a tsunami that destroys everything before it

October 8, 2012

(Romereports.com) American Cardinal, Donald Wuerl of Washington, has a special role in the Synod of the New Evangelization. He's in charge of listing a summary of the daily topics that will be discussed in the so called “Relatio ante disceptationem.” Cardinal Wuerl said that the main problem of the West is secularization. He compared it to a tsunami that destroys everything before it.

CARD. DONALD WUERL
Archbishop of Washington, United States

“The image of the tsunami because it is a very vivid one. When the tsunami washes across land it takes everything with it and I get the sense that the new secularization is taking with it all the things, all we relied on.”

The Synod for the New Evangelization  has brought together the highest number of participants in history. It includes 262 Synod Fathers, 45 experts, 49 observers and 15 delegates from other churches who will talk about new ways to evangelize. Cardinal Wuerl also talked about how new technologies can help in the New Evangelization.

CARD. DONALD WUERL
Archbishop of Washington, United States

“The New Evagelization is the opportunity for everyone to speak of the love of Christ and to speak the message to everyone around us and to invite them back to experience Christ and his Church.”

This was the first session of the Synod on the New Evagelization, which will run until October 28th. The goal of these meetings is to re-evangelize in countries where secularization is high and religion is losing strength.
