(Romereports.com) As the Year of
Faith is celebrated, the main questions is how can one fully take
advantage of it? The Prelate of the Opus Dei has written a pastoral letter
with a few recommendations. It includes following the example of the
early Christians, having a deeper understanding of the Church's doctrine
in order to pass it on to others. It also focuses on the importance of
education and the family. Living out the faith by example, he says,
should be a priority.
MSGR. JAVIER ECHEVARRIA Opus Dei Prelate "I
think we can carry out the Year of Faith, just as the Pope recommends,
but for that to happen we must pray and also offer sacrifices. But it
should be a combination that leads us to be apostles, with joy, as we
try to help other people and also learn from them.”
One of
the goals of the New Evangelization is to call Catholics to make a
commitment to spread the message of the Gospel, with words and actions.
One
of the pioneers of the New Evangelization, was St. Josemaría Escriva's
first successor, Bishop Alvaro del Portillo. In fact 25 years ago, his
writings show that he was already thinking about the New Evangelization,
as a tool to strengthen Christianity in Western countries.
MSGR. JAVIER ECHEVARRIA Opus Dei Prelate “He
was truly motivated by the apostolic zeal of John Paul II. When
Monsignor del Portillo contacted St. Josemaría Escrivá, the world
already seemed very small, in the sense that he wanted to reach all
souls. He wanted to go out and find those souls wherever they were. He
knew that with his life he was already collaborating in the New
Evangelization.”
The Prelate of the Opus Dei says that
living by example and true friendship will be the main points that drive
the New Evangelization. He says this will then pave the way for
Catholics to transmit the faith in their daily lives, at work, with
friends and family.
