(Romereports.com) The bishop of Hong
Kong, Cardinal John Tong Hong, said that to speak of God to society, a
person needs to first undergo a conversion. So his suggestions for
promoting the New Evangelization consist of formation and the Sacrament
of confession.
CARD. JOHN TONG HON Bishop of Hong Kong (China) “Honestly
speaking, I receive this Sacrament at least every three weeks. I go to
my confessor priest to receive the Sacrament of confession.”
In
his diocese, Cardinal Tong Hon has a program to promote the formation
of lay catechists. Over 1,000 are taking part to deepen their
understanding of the Christian faith. It's something that has already
had a positive impact.
CARD. JOHN TONG HON Bishop of Hong Kong (China) “I
proposed four priorities in my diocese. The first was evangelization.
In fact, this year at the Easter Vigil 3,500 adults were Baptized.”
The
other priorities are to increase the number of training centers for
priests. He says it's a way to promote religious life and to show
Christianity as a real alternative to materialism and individualism.
