CCTN: How a priest launched a network to change his city

November 17, 2012

(Romereports.com) Setting goals is relatively easy. What's challenging is actually making them happen, despite all the setbacks. That reflects the case of father John Giel. He wanted to communicate God's message to more people. So, he and his team decided to launch a tv channel.

“We founded it about 18 years ago out of a parish. It's the only Television Network that really comes out of a parish in the world. We are in central Florida, out of the diocese of Orlando.”

At first, they started small by renting out tv slots in Christian programming. But eventually they all decided to take the project a step further by starting their own channel.

“I said, we need to go really further than that, we need to really evangelize, and so, anybody can put on a Mass, any parish or whatever. So we decided to develop programs, emphasize the important things of our faith, and why we are Catholic.”

So now, CCTN airs all types of programs, not just religious ceremonies. There are debates, interviews, shows about music, travel and of course coverage of all the latest news surrounding  Benedict XVI.

If this sounds a bit complicated, it's because it is. But father Giel say that shouldn't discourage others.

“It's very difficult, a lot of prayer. A lot of prayer because there were times in formation when we thought we would never get off the ground. A lot of times we would think, we want things happening but we have to realize too, it's in  Lord's time, not in our own. We have to be very pacient and you have to have benefactors, as well.”

He adds that it's projects like these that allow him and his team to reach out to thousands of people. He also says the important thing is to remember it's not just about random content, but about stories and information that can help as many people as possible.
