Jakarta cardinal will not take part in conclave because of poor health, two others pending

February 21, 2013

(Romereports.com) Cardinal Julius Riyadi Darmaatmadja, Archbishop Emeritus of Indonesia, will not take part in the conclave due to poor health. At 78 years old, he also has serious problems with his vision. The announcement decreases the number of papal electors to 116.

That number could go down even more, since two cardinals are evaluating whether their health will allow them to attend.

Egyptian Cardinal Antonios Naguib, the former Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria resigned after suffering a stroke last year.

Also, Bolivian Cardinal Julio Terrazas has said he would like to travel to Rome for the conclave, but is waiting on doctors' approval given his delicate health.
