March, 9 2010. If the pope asked you to pray for a very important intention, would you? Well, each month Benedict XVI asks all Catholics to pray for a general and missionary intention. Catholics around the world learn about the intentions thanks to the Apostleship of Prayer.
Fr. Claudio Barriga Dominguez Director General, Apostleship of Prayer “The main idea of the apostleship of prayer is offering a prayer offering each day plus a prayer for the intentions of the Pope's prayer for each month.”
The Vatican commissioned this work to the Jesuits. They provide tools to those who want to pray for the Pope.
Fr. Claudio Barriga Dominguez Director General, Apostleship of Prayer “The Society of Jesus is in charge of appointing someone as the head in each country. The residents of that country contact the national office in one of two ways: one through mail for example in order to receive the publications with the Pope’s intentions, its material that helps them reflect and secondly by joining with existing groups.”
Since there are Catholics all over the world the Apostleship of Prayer has headquarters in 5 continents. Fr. Juan Antonio Medina Coordinator of Latin America “The Apostleship of Prayer is present in all Latin American countries, from Mexico on south. All of Central America and all of South America.”
Fr. Rigobert Kyungu Coordinator of Africa “In Africa we are present in about 20 countries and I estimate about 1 million people participate in the Apostleship of Prayer.”
Lourdes Vasquez Garcia Eucharist Youth Movement “We have 250,000 members in Madagascar, people of all ages. From children to young adults who learned about the movement and discovered their faith, their lives as Christians has grown inside the movement.”
As an individual or as a group, young and old, in cities or in small towns, 50 million people follow the Apostleship of Prayer across 5 continents. 50 million people connected by the pope’s prayer and making a daily contribution to the Church.
