February 17, 2010. It’s a new initiative to encourage Catholics to participate in the sacrament of reconciliation. It’s called “The light is on for you” TV, radio and internet campaign that runs from Ash Wednesday to Easter. For 40 days, the Archdiocese of Boston will be opening up the doors of every church and chapel on Wednesday nights to welcome Catholics who want to confess.

Catholics in Boston and all around the world are encouraged to deepen their friendship with Jesus during Lent.

In a recorded message on the Archdiocese’s website, the Bishop of Boston says even if it’s been a long time since the last time a person walked into a confessional, the sacrament of reconciliation is an opportunity for Catholics to start over and hit the reset button of their lives. The diocese has also posted other videos on its site, some serious others humorous, to promote the sacrament of reconciliation.

An act the bishop of Boston hopes will not only lead to more confessions but also get more Catholics to return to the pews.
