November 4, 2009. Twenty five years of history, twenty five years of searching and teaching the truth. That’s how the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome inaugurated the 2009-2010 academic year.
Prof. Luis Romera Rector, Pontifical University of the Holy Cross “Today the university celebrates 25 years. That may not seem like a lot for an academic institution, but for us it’s a new chapter, a significant moment. Our university is characterized by love for the truth and by our intention to bring this truth to all men keeping in mind respect for different theological and intellectual points of view, all of them within the great stream of Christian truth, with the Holy Father and with all of the bishops around the world.”
This exhibit tells the story of the university that started in 1984. The idea came from Saint Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei, and was executed by his successor, Monsignor Alvaro del Portillo. Along with the schools of Theology, Canon law, Philosophy and Institutional Communication, the university offers programs on religious sciences and Christian culture.
The academic ceremony was presided over by the prelate of Opus Dei and great chancellor of the university Monsignor Javier Echevarria along with Monsignor Fernando Ocariz, vice-great chancellor and professor Luis Romera, rector of the University.
More than 7,000 students from 102 countries have passed through the University of the Holy Cross in its 25 year history. A university in Rome with a universal spirit.
