August 31, 2009. During the Sunday Angelus, Benedict XVI reminded parents that their children could discover their vocation to the priesthood or to a consecrated life if they are educated generously and have help in finding God.
The pope said couples should make the effort to live a saintly life in order to spread the Christian faith.
Benedict XVI "Christianity’s history is full of innumerable examples of saintly parents and authentic Christian families that have accompanied the lives of generous priests and pastors of the Church."
The pope talked about Saint Monica, mother of Saint Augustine and patron saint of Christian mothers whose feast is celebrated on August 27. He pointed out that she dedicated her whole life to her son’s conversion.
On the occasion of the Year for Priests, the pope asked families to become small churches where vocations can be developed.
Benedict XVI “On this Year for Priests we pray so that by way of the intercession of the Cure of Ars, Christian families can become small churches where all vocations and charismas, given by the Holy Spirit, be accepted and valued.”
The pope concluded the Angelus by asking industrialized countries to make an effort in protecting the environment so that poorer communities don’t suffer the consequences of climate change.
