YoutubeJanuary 9, 2013. (Romereports.com) The Feast of the Black Nazarene in the Manila (Philippines) proceeded without major incidents, authorities said. The procession and the Mass drew in an estimated nine million worshipers, surpassing last year's attendance by almost one million people.

Millions of people flocked to the streets of Manila to see the procession of the Black Nazarene, a darkened wood statue of Jesus carrying a cross.

During the procession dozens of people attempted to kiss or rub the statue, believing it has miraculous properties.

According to its story, a priest bought the Nazarene statue in Mexico in the 1600's. While on board a ship to the Philippines, it caught on fire, but instead of burning, it just turned a darker color.
