November 11, 2012. (Romereports.com) Wearing their white wedding dress and black tuxedos, every week, newlywed couples come to St. Peter's Square, dressed exactly as if it was their wedding day. During Wednesday's general audience they sit in the front rows, and wait for Benedict XVI to give them a Papal blessing.
CATALINA AND MAURICIO Newlyweds (Colombia) “We are vacationing here in Europe. We started in the Nordic countries, then we came to Italy. In Rome, our plan included visiting key churches and especially the Vatican. But it turns out our vacation schedule coincided with Wednesday's general audience, so we decided to come to see the Pope and have him bless our marriage. That's why we're dressed like this.”
That wish came true. The Colombian couple had the opportunity to sit quite close to the Pope, as he blessed them along with other newlywed couples.
CATALINA AND MAURICIO Newlyweds (Colombia) “Coming here was a challenge, but for me, it's part of a very special grace. We are already married in the Church, but seeking more blessings can lead us towards a path of holiness. It can expand our understanding of God, of living our faith in marriage and of having children and raising them Catholic.”
So, surrounded by thousands of people, this Colombian couple received the Pope's blessing, which they hope will remind them of staying true to their commitments, through the good times and the bad. Actually signing up for this blessing was easy. Couples need to fill out an application found on the Vatican's website under the Prefecture of the Papal Household. Then after it's submitted, the only thing left to do is wait for a reply.
