November 23, 2010. The newly-appointed pontifical delegate for the Legionaries of Christ, Cardinal Velasio de Paolis together with the order's general director, Father Alvaro Corcuera Martinez del Rio, has made key governance changes. De Paolis decided to temporarily augment the general council, which also has the task of revising the Order's constitution. De Paolis will name the two new general councilors at the beginning of 2011, boosting the number of councilors to seven from five.
Legionary of Christ Vicar General, Father Luis Garza, will no longer serve as territorial director for Italy nor will he serve as the dean of studies. His Italy position will be taken over by Father Oscar Nader, while Father José Enrique Oyarzún will assume Garza's dean of studies position.
But Garza will continue to serve as vicar general and as the general director’s delegate to the consecrated female members.
These are just some of the reforms de Paolis has made to the order just five months after Pope Benedict XVI asked him to be his delegate with authority over the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement.
