The pope was given the
gift of music, which sounded like this... A small group of
people enjoyed the concert at the pope's summer residence in Castel
Gandolfo. It was a gift for the pope and his brother Georg Ratzinger,
who was sitting right next to him. The gift was for their recent
60th
ordination anniversary.
The music was played by
German musician Albrecht Mayer. He interpreted the music of Johann
Sebastian Bach, a Lutheran musician whose music seems to reflect an
understanding of divinity and of course of faith.
In the second part of the
concert, violinist Arabella Steinbacher played music composed by
Antonio Vivaldi, who was a Catholic priest. His music bears a melody
of serenity and joy. The pope attributes both these factors to the
musician's strong faith and devotion.
After the concert, the
pope stood thanked the musicians for the gift, on his behalf and that
of his brother.
