May 21, 2010. Benedict XVI met with participants of the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, who are meeting to examine the theme “Witnesses to Christ in the political community.”
The pope took advantage of the gathering to ask the Catholic laity to
participate in politics. An indirect way of reminding priests they
should stay out of this area.
Benedict XVI“It is up to the lay faithful to show - in their personal and family life, in social cultural and political life - that the faith enables them to read reality in a new and profound way, and to transform it.”The Pontifical Council for the Laity is the Vatican department in charge of promoting the role of Catholics who are not priests or religious. Among members of the Pontifical Council for the Laity are fathers and mothers of families and professionals of every kind.
