November 19, 2009. If you study theology, you’d be interested in the advice theologian pope Benedict XVI gave professors and students of Rome’s pontifical universities so they can get the most of their time in school.

“This meeting gives me the opportunity to highlight once more the irreplaceable mission that ecclesiastical faculties and Catholic universities have in society.”
The pope explained that pontifical universities have the mission of bridging the gap between faith and culture.
In order to do so, he advised them to seriously study Catholic doctrine and theology without losing sight of other fields of knowledge.
The theologian pope also warned theology professors and students that if the study of God does not go hand in hand with prayer and contemplation, it would become a vain intellectual exercise.

The Catholic Church is the organization with the most universities in the world. There are some 1,300 Catholic universities and 400 ecclesiastical faculties dedicated to the formation of theologians and philosophers.
