YoutubeMarch 24, 2010. During his weekly General Audience Pope Benedict XVI delivered a gift to Chileans who are still grappling with the aftermath of the deadly quake that struck the country last month.

Benedict XVI
“I will bless the statue as a sign of affection to all the brothers and sisters in that country, who are celebrating its bicentennial and it will be with you in these very difficult times following the recent earthquake.”

Benedict XVI blessed a statue of Chile’s patroness, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and greeted a Chilean delegation.

This week, Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the General Audience to St. Albert the Great, whom he described as "one of the greatest masters of scholastic theology.”

St. Albert, who was German and born in the 13th century, served as the Bishop of Regensburg. He was later canonized, declared a Doctor of the Church and became the patron saint of the natural sciences.

Benedict XVI
“St. Albert shows us that faith is not opposed to reason, and that the created world can be seen as a ‘book’ written by God and capable of being ‘read’ in its own way by the various sciences.”

The Pope concluded his catechesis by asking God to continue gracing the Church with, pious and wise theologians like St. Albert the Great.
