September 30, 2010. The Pope couldn’t leave Castel Gandolfo without saying goodbye and acknowledging the work of the palace employees where he spent the summer months.
A few hours before returning to Rome, Benedict XVI met with them and their families – they included cooks, cleaners and gardeners.
Benedict XVI
"Thank you all again because, even in summer, you accompanied me with your prayers and daily work. You have always been close by and for this I thank you.”
Benedict XVI greeted each of them. He met the first child of one of the workers and joked with one of the employees.
Benedict XVI
"You do not need stairs."
The Pope said goodbye until next year, recognizing the efforts and work which made his stay as comfortable as possible.
