Pope blesses lambs whose fleece will be used to make palliums

YoutubeJanuary 21, 2010. Popes are used to receiving all types of visitors from heads of states to celebrities and even the kind that bleat.


Wearing flowers around their necks and tucked in baskets, Pope Benedict XVI blessed two lambs, to mark the feast of Saint Agnes, who’s name means lamb in Latin.

The wool shorn from the lambs will go to make this year's palliums, a stole like garmet new archbishops will receive on the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul next June 29th.

The pallium is a sign of communion with the pope. New archbishops are given a pallium decorated with black crosses, to use in special masses.
