Benedict XVI blessed the lambs whose wool will be used to make the palliums of the metropolitan archbishops he elects this year.
Benedict XVI
Bless with the warmth of your Spirit the pastors of the Church who will be covered with the sacred pallium, which will be made from the wool of these sheep.
The wool of these animals will be used by the Benedictine nuns of the monastery of Santa Cecilia to make the palliums that Benedict XVI will give to the newly elected archbishops during a solemn ceremony on the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul on June 29.
The pallium is a garment used by archbishops as a sign of communion with the Pope. Once they are made, they will be placed on the tomb of the Apostle St. Peter until the day of the ceremony.
