During these difficult economic
times, Benedict XVI has called on banks to be more generous with those who are
less fortunate.
He made the comments during the general audience, while
greeting representatives from Italian banks.
Benedict XVIDear
friends, your presence offers me the opportunity to bring to light, especially
during these difficult times for so many families, one of the main objectives of
the banking and credit institutes. That is the solidarity with the weakest
groups, and to sustain productive activity. Also present were
a group of bakers, who gave the Pope a thousand panettones, the traditional
Italian Christmas pastry. The Pope has ordered them to be given to the poor of
Rome.
