YoutubeJuly 30, 2012. (Romereports.com) During the Angelus at Castel Gandolfo, the pope spoke on the situation in Syria and Iraq, which have both suffered from violent conflicts in the past week. Benedict XVI asked the international community to help in bringing peace to the region.

Benedict XVI
“I ask God for the wisdom of the heart, particularly for those most responsible, so that no effort is spared in the pursuit of peace, also by the international community through dialogue and reconciliation, in view of a proper political settlement.”

The pope also noted that in one year from now World Youth Day will be celebrated in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Benedict XVI
“I look with hope toward this event and wish to encourage and thank the organizers, especially to the diocese of Rio de Janeiro, which is committed to diligently prepare and host young people from around the world who will take part in this important ecclesial event.”

The Sunday Angelus is one of the pope's few public appearances during the month of July, while he vacations at his summer residence. Beginning this Wednesday, he will return to delivering the general audiences.
