YoutubeAugust 13, 2012. (Romereports.com) Ninety years ago, 'Caritas' established a local chapter in the German city of Regensburg. So, to mark the occasion, a concert was offered to the Pope.

The concert was organized by Caritas and by musician Thomas Beckmann. It included melodies of Beethoven, Giovanni Battista and Claudio Monteverdi at the Pope's summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.

BENEDICT XVI
“This evening's concert has given us an idea of the  multiplicity of musical creativity and its vast harmony. Music is not just a succession of sounds-it has a rhythm, at the same time cohesion and harmony. It has its own structure and depth.”

The Pope said that music, like art, is an expression of beauty and goodness in mankind. It's something  that needs to be exposed to others more often.

BENEDICT XVI
“Music is an expression of spirit, a place inside the person, created for all that is true, good and beautiful. It is no coincidence that music often accompanies our prayers. It awakens our senses and our soul when, in prayer we find God.”

One of the concert's organizers, Thomas Beckmann, is also the founder of an organization that helps the homeless. It translates to “Together Against the Cold.” With his music, he collaborates with the local German Caritas chapter.

Benedict XVI expressed his gratitude for the concert. He also called on people to keep collaborating in the art world and its charitable works.
