December 14, 2012. (Romereports.com) The Christmas greeting card Benedict XVI used this year features a replica of one of the painting that hangs of his papal apartment.
The artwork was created by Leandro Bassano and shows the
adoration of Baby Jesus by the shepherds. The Italian artist from the 16th Century (1557-1622) used a Venetian style for his depiction, showing clear influences from another Italian artist, Tintoretto.
The Pope's greeting card includes a Latin verse from Psalm 85: Veritas de terra orta est!, “Truth shall spring out of Earth!”
