September 9, 2009 In his general audience, Benedict XVI remembered the teachings of Saint Peter Damian, who highlighted the importance of the word of God in the spiritual lives of Christian.
Saint Peter Damian was a monk from the XI century. Aside from living a hermit life, several popes asked for his help in resolving Church problems of the time or to dedicate himself to more direct pastoral activities.
Benedict XVINourished by a mystical understanding of Scripture, Saint Peter Damian enjoyed precise theological insights especially into the mysteries of the Holy Trinity and the Church as a communion, from which he derived practical advice for living in charity with others.
In uniting with the words of Saint Peter Damian, the pope encouraged people to put Christ at the center of their lives and to serve others according to each one’s own capacity.
